Weston Airfield, Sunday 24 February

We expected our first AutoSolo of the year to be popular; we didn't expect to have to turn people away, but with 50 entries we reluctantly had to disappoint several unlucky entrants. At this time of the year though 40 drivers is about as many as the daylight hours can accommodate. It was the usual February Weston - a stiff breeze, cold and for the most part dry, but with a shower to mix things up a bit in the afternoon. For many competitors, it's the first opportunity to play on some tarmac after a winter break - which probably accounts for the number of big grins in evidence around the place on Sunday. But in spite of the wide range of ages and design of cars, the competition was very close - something else we've noticed at our previous AutoSolos.

FTD went to the impressive Kevin Belcher (Oxford MC) in his Impreza, with last year's winner, Chris Underwood (Lotus Elise) having to settle for 2nd overall, trailing by a mere 3.7 secs (about 1% slower!). Third overall, and second in class to Kevin, was our own Dave Greenslade, as smooth, consistent and fast as ever in his Mitsubishi Lancer. Fastest Lady competitor was again Wendy Crew, sharing Dave's Lancer. Details of the other class award winners in the full results; congratulations to you all.

You Tube has lots of footage of the event from a number of competitors, including Ben Webster, who has made an index of the videos he has uploaded, (including an interesting compilation of spins and other errors!). Thanks to Ben & Duncan for sending these.

Our next Solo will be on  3rd August. If you can't wait that long you might like to consider:

Ross & District Motor Sports AutoSolo at Strensham Services on 9 March : for regs

or the FDMC Montgomery Lines Solo on 16 March: for regs
